President Volodymyr Zelensky seems to have departed from a Washington summit empty-handed after failing to obtain the requested Tomahawk cruise missiles from US President Donald Trump.

The Ukrainian president commented following the civil meeting that he and Trump had talked about advanced missile systems, but chose to avoid public declarations on that issue "because the US administration wishes to prevent an escalation."

President Trump's Position on Missile Supply

While the US president left open the possibility of supplying the missiles to Ukraine, his attitude during the White House discussions was non-committal.

"With hope Ukraine won't require them, hopefully we'll be able to end the conflict without considering Tomahawks," Trump remarked, noting that the United States required the missile systems for its own defense.

The American leader said that sending the missiles would be "a significant escalation, but we'll be talking about it."
