It might not have been at the equivalent scale as sparing festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven. Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood. “The swine has done no wrong. Clemency is justified for her. She has committed zero crimes,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of pardons issued from the start of the onset of a new presidential term. “Except perhaps for eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” the mayor added. “May this pig enjoy a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.” The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to replicate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House. The pig, contributed by a local firefighter, was christened after the current slang trend of young people yelling “6-7” – inspired by a hip-hop line – often for no discernable reason. The craze became so pervasive that a major dictionary recently named “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year. A Peaceful Retirement The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a rural sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the organizers' announcement. “This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to open the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message. “It captures the essence of Miami: joyful, varied, and grounded in customs that bring people together. Each year, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.” Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and Cuban coffee as they toasted the pig's pardon.
