🔗 Share this article The network's Premier New Show of This Year Secures a Significant Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3. During the fall season, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. But, shortly thereafter, the channel unveiled a completely new animated series with a strikingly different feel. Haha, You Clowns emerged as heartwarming and calm, in the spirit of a animated take of a serene talk show. During a period often defined by bleakness, this show's wholesomeness struck a chord and helped it become a breakout hit. A Significant Investment In mid-December, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for a further two seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to develop the story of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose defining trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four key characters. "I am incredibly thankful to the audience of the show who welcomed the series and spread the word," stated Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for a little longer." A President's Endorsement Accompanying the news laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He shouted out the fans who embraced the show and advocated for its uniquely offbeat sensibility. "All of you supported this new show, praised it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'" A Wholesome Alternative Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something surprisingly comfy about following this lovable family go about their simple existence. At the time, creator Joe Cappa expressed his goal to evolve comedy past its long-running sarcastic tone. He traced this trend to various cultural shifts. “It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we are trapped in,” explained Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we just have to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.” The Path Forward Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa has the opportunity to catalyze that very evolution. At a minimum, the renewal promises audiences more opportunities to bask in the gentle humor of the unique Campbell clan. The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The complete first season is ready to watch on HBO Max.
