The Israeli Defense Forces announced that a coffin of a dead captive has been transferred to the Red Cross in the southern Gaza Strip and is now on its way to Israeli forces within the territory.

Through a statement on X, the Israeli military urged the general population to act with sensitivity and await formal confirmation, which will first be provided with the relatives.

It stressed that the Palestinian group was required to return all the deceased hostages in accordance with a Gaza ceasefire agreement.

This follows an previous Hamas statement that it would transfer the remains of an Israeli captive on that day.

Hamas recently returned the remains of several of the twenty-eight dead hostages in Gaza, and freed all twenty surviving captives.

There has been anger in the country that the organization has not handed over all remains according to the recent truce agreement – although the United States has downplayed the idea that it constitutes a breach.

In its posts on the platform late on Friday, the Israeli military gave no additional information on the location the remains would be taken after its transfer by the Red Cross.

Meanwhile, sources reported that a brief service – officiated by a military rabbi – would be held in the region, and the body would then be taken to the city for verification.

Hamas has said it remained committed to the ceasefire, including keenness to transfer every deceased individual.

The Palestinian group claimed the Israeli leader of hindering its ability to search for the bodies of captives by preventing equipment and diggers into Gaza.

Speaking at a commemoration for those killed of the October 7 incident, the prime minister said he was determined to secure the return of the dead hostages still in Gaza, and that the nation would continue to fight terrorism with maximum effort.

Under the truce agreement mediated by the former US president, Israel freed two hundred fifty Palestinian prisoners in prisons and one thousand seven hundred eighteen individuals from the territory.

Following Hamas said it was not able to retrieve all the bodies, advisors to the former president said arrangements to advance to the next phase of the agreement were continuing.

They told the media that the US government did not at this time believe the organization had violated the agreement by not retrieving more remains, and said the group had operated sincerely by sharing information with mediators.

While the full text of the agreement between Israeli officials and Hamas has not been released, a leaked version which appeared in news outlets appeared to allow for the chance that not all of the remains would be immediately accessible.

Israeli forces initiated a campaign in the region in response to the attack, in which militants killed about 1,200 people in southern Israel and took 251 others hostage.
