Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and gamers have encountered plenty of interesting indie games. Yet, one catches the eye for its unconventional concept. Titled Unko Technica, this classic-feel side-scrolling game features a protagonist that is literally a dung striving to navigate to a toilet. In case you're wondering, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."

Player controls is easy to grasp: you only need a jump control. Across 150 levels, you'll face tough enemies and access a shop to purchase outfits for your dung hero.

Execute your movements precisely, as a mistake requires restarting the level. Jump off bubbles to launch your character to new heights, cross fragile ledges, and interact with triggers to open hidden paths. Earn UN-KOINS for buying tougher levels where the action intensifies.

In terms of design, the demo shows off neon stages and a killer background music. The simple graphics with shifting geometric shapes evokes memories of fans of old favorites like Earthbound.

Even though tough to name other games where you are a dung character, gaming often included scatological themes. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, players create explosives from character waste. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize feces as fertilizer. Naturally, such content shows up heavily in the adventure The Stick of Truth.

Regardless of its humorous concept, Unko Technica has already earned notable accolades, such as taking top honors at a major publisher's game competition in 2023. A playable preview is available now on Steam, with the final release set to debut on Steam this November.
