An Unexpected Turnaround After Previous Accusations Only weeks ago, the mayor had publicly condemned the former governor, describing him as a “snake and a untruthful person” and alleging of having “a career of pushing Black candidates out of races.” However, in a recent statement, Adams changed his position, announcing he now intends to appear with the former governor in communities where he maintains strong support. “It's essential to really wake up the communities of color that have suffered from gentrification on how critical this election is,” the mayor remarked. The mayor further explained, “They have watched their housing costs rise in terms of neighborhood changes and they have been ignored in those areas, and I’m going to go to those communities and talk directly with community leaders and organizations and I’m going to walk with the governor in those neighborhoods and get them engaged.” Election Landscape and Current Developments The mayoral contest has so far been dominated by the struggle between the former governor and progressive candidate his main rival, whose growing support has drawn interest worldwide and represented hopes for a revitalized leftwing of the Democratic party. During a recent mayoral debate, both the democratic socialist and GOP candidate his conservative opponent announced they would decline the mayor's support if extended. Earlier this year, the mayor had launched his bid for another term as an independent after facing federal corruption charges which were later thrown out in exchange for his assistance with government enforcement actions across the city. At an separate media briefing on the same day, Adams answered journalists asking about the endorsement plan by stating, “Andrew and I will appear together later today.” The announcement followed a day after Adams and Cuomo were seen sitting courtside together at the New York Knicks’ first game at Madison Square Garden, which took place right after a contentious candidate debate.
